Dedication to quality.
Murphy's window and sunrooms was founded by James Murphy, Sr. in 1983 in the south chicagoland area. Murphy started his business after a horrible experience with a large scale window outfit. From the beginning, he was a little leary of which remodeling company he would choose, but went with one of the largest and most well-known. On the day of installation, he felt that the workmanship was sub-par and none of his openings were insulated like promised. When he immediately began experiencing significant problems with his new windows, he called the remodeling company to express his concerns. He explained that he started to feel some drafts through his new windows, and that some of them even began to fog up.
Remodeling company "non-receptive" to concerns.
The remodeling company, who had provided a great warranty, was non-receptive to his concerns. They explained that drafts were normal “while the house settled,” and that the condensation issue was from excessive humidty in the home. Murphy found this explanation to be unacceptable, and brought his concerns to the company president. The president basically ignored his concerns, and simply told Murphy “then sue me.” The president was well aware that Murphy was a Chicago police officer, and was not financially prepared for a legal battle. Murphy saw how a homeowner can fall victim to big business. He vowed, at that point, to establish a company that could be trusted. His goal was to provide homeowners with the highest qualitiy products, installation, and service at a fair price.
"One customer at a time."
Mr. Murphy grew his business one customer at a time. He worked midnights as a police officer and ran the business from a home office for four years. In the spring of 1987, he moved Murphy's headquarters to 10349 S. Pulaski. He earned a reputation as a fair businessman who prided himself on service and going the extra mile for his customers. Murphy's windows grew into a full service exterior remodeling company as it added sunrooms, entry doors, and siding to it's list of expertise. Murphy's has always hired the best intallers, using the American Architectural Manufacturing Association Certified Carpenters. In 1994, he was proud to be named by the leading remodeling publication, Qualified Remodeler, as one of the top 500 remodeiling firms in the United States.
Family business
Murphy had always envisioned his son carrying on the family business. In the fall of 2002, James A. Murphy Jr. rejoined the family business upon graduating from Pepperdine University. He had always been involved in the business since it's inception. From the early days of sweeping warehouse floors and unloading trucks to job inspections and home appointments, he gained invaluable knowledge of the complete business spectrum. Mr. Murphy always instilled in his son that you need to know every aspect of a business in order to be successful. James was named President of Murphy's window and sunrooms in Spring 2004. At the same time, Murphy's opened a new showroom and office next door at 10359 S. Pulaski where they now reside. Today, father and son are happy to be able to provide an alternative to large-scale competitors. Murphy's lives by the motto, "Large enough to serve you, small enough to know you." Together, the Murphy's are proud to carry on those same values and commitments to their customers that built their business as they celebrate their 23rd year!!
